ABOUT THE EVENT

Launch Pad is the most extensive Australian initiative aimed at directly developing the careers of Australian product designers. Held in conjunction with Saturday in Design, Launch Pad has evolved since its inception in 2004, using ongoing feedback from both finalists and the design community to develop into the project it has become today.

What started as a humble program for emerging designers has now become a full program of events, including an exhibition of prototypes, mentoring and networking evenings, and critique from both judges and an international review panel. This year we aim to provide more specific mentoring and critiquing opportunities for each of our finalists, targeting their area of interest so that they receive the best advice possible.

Many past Launch Pad products are now in production with major manufacturers such as Woodmark, and some have gone on to create a business under their own name, like David Knott.

What will the products of Launch Pad 08 offer Australia’s design community? Only time will tell . . .
