Judging

The national judging panel and international review panel play a crucial role in the Launch Pad program – selecting, critiquing and advising our finalists.

The judging criteria will assess shortlisted products according to authenticity, performance and user-friendliness, ecological and economic impact, expression, innovation, quality of prototype and future potential.

TOM DIXON

tomdixon.net

Born in Tunisia and raised in London, Tom Dixon entered the design world through experimenting with welding recycled material and industrial scrap. He has since produced iconic seating and lighting products for noted international brands. Dixon’s work has gained entry into The Museum of Modern Art in New York and he has a global presence participating in exhibitions and fairs around the world. He continues to explore the realm of design under his own name.

Tom Dixon has a proud association with Saturday in Design, having previously supported the Launch Pad program in 2007.

THE DESIGN STUDIO OF BUSK + HERTZOG

Flemming Busk (1967) and Stephan B. Hertzog (1969) established their design studio in January 2000. Today they are among the leading award-winning designers in Scandinavia. The studio is located at the harbour side in central Copenhagen,
Denmark. 

The studio designs office furniture, upholstery, household products and also advises in design strategy. busk+hertzog’s design characteristics are clean lines and a simple expression with minimal embellishment. Any decoration usually serves a function or is integral to the furniture. They often get their inspiration from shapes and lines found in nature. Horizontal and vertical lines combined with geometric shapes are their trademark design ingredients.

NIELS GAMMELGAARD

In 1978 Gammelgaard co-founded with Lars Mathiesen Pelikan Design. A Copenhagen-based industrial design practise, which over the past 24 years has designed and seen in production literally hundreds of products ranging from small pencils to children’s tricycles to hospital beds.

Pelikan Design is best known however, for the design of contract furniture – offices, waiting halls, rest areas- and can name many of the most prestigious Danish furniture manufactures among its clients, including Fritz Hansen, Bent Krogh, Fredericia and Erik Jørgensen.

More recently, Pelikan Design was awarded The Danish Design Council’s Annual Award in 1998 for the Wing screen wall (1993) and a Neocon Silver Award in 2000 for the IQ furniture series (1996).  With its abiding mission to establish long-lasting relationships between its products and users, Pelikan Design remains at the very forefront of Scandinavian design practice.
