A completely recyclable bookshelf, ‘Prism’ is made from Woven Image EchoPanel®. EchoPanel® is made from 100% PET (60% recycled consumer waste).
The product comes as a single flat piece, and is screw mounted to the wall. Once in place, the unit folds over itself and snap-locks into position with hidden steel plates, which are machined into the form.
The unit comes in half or full size – the half units being either for right or left handed wall-corners. Stainless steel bookends are designed to hold any sized book (folio to novel) or magazine, and they support the weight of books when sitting to the outsides of the tapering triangular shelf. The design is high load bearing and can be arranged from a single unit to an entire bookshelf wall.
The design was originally developed after a project briefing from international furniture designer, Giulio Cappellini of Cappellini. Anthony’s intention was to create a faceted folding bookshelf with hidden fastenings that was lightweight, flat-packable, and which used EchoPanel®, a material he had long wanted to experiment with.
There is very little wastage during production of ‘Prism’, since one full unit and two half-units fit very tightly on a single 2400x1200 sheet. The unit comprises of simple parts, which can be cleanly disassembled and recycled, and Woven Image has put in place a stewardship program so that manufacturing off-cuts can be returned for re-processing.
