Observing patterns that form in nature inspire the design of the quirky ‘Porcini Stem’ lamp.

The exploration of unique fitting methods has resulted in the organic shapes and forms in the lamp – dictated by the materials used and the ordered patterns of nature.

An exploration into the elegantly simple form of the mushroom – where the internal structure supports and creates the external form, stimulated the design of ‘Porcini Stem.’ Using Tasmanian Oak for the base and wool felt upholstery, cotton stitching and metal fasteners, the stem lamp is a textural feast of surfaces and materials.

Unlike a traditional lamp framework, ‘Porcini Stem’ instead uses the framework as an inherent part of the shade structure – using a series of thin Oak supports repeated in a radiating pattern from the central core.

The materials are predominantly from natural sustainable sources, and embody a long life span and age with grace. The main material used is Tasmanian Oak, a non-endangered timber species sourced from Australian sustainable forests, and finished with natural Australian beeswax.

The design duo hope the design itself will make the strongest sustainable statement, resonating over time to become a treasured object which overlooks fashion trends and establishes its own design position and connection with the end user.
