The intricate details of ‘Porcini Canopy’ create a sense of aesthetic quality and natural whimsy.
While influenced by Australia’s natural landscape, the design duo also drew on the simplicity and refined detail of Scandinavian design – through unique and simple fixing methods and consideration of every design detail.
Jaquie Hagan and Madeleine Potter of Memake wanted their designs to embody a sustainable philosophy, using non-endangered timber, accompanied by 100% pure new wool upholstery, which is both biodegradable and renewable.
Bringing the role of artisan back into design, ‘Porcini Canopy’ represents a spirit of craft and the handmade.
The inventive thin Oak supports of the lamp radiate from the central core, being both the form and feature of the lamp. This functional and aesthetic element represents the membrane-like folds of a mushroom, with the outer skin supported by the internal skeleton-like gills.
